Our rivers are dying. Our government is failing to fulfill its duty to protect our rivers from an endless torrent of agricultural, sewage and industrial pollution. River Action plans to take legal action to ensure that relevant governmental bodies enforce regulations to protect our rivers.

Situation
All of Britain’s rivers suffer from agricultural, industrial and sewage pollution. For example, the manure of 20 million chickens in the Wye catchment is causing an ecological crisis and water companies dumped sewage into rivers for 5.7million hours in the past two years! Meanwhile environmental protection agencies are failing to monitor polluters leaving them unlikely to face prosecution. By failing to enforce environmental regulations, the Government is allowing the law to be broken every day.
Solution
We will legally challenge the UK’s environmental agencies for their failure to enforce regulations to protect our rivers from pollution using legal frameworks such as the judicial review process. Working closely with our legal advisors we will use the law to apply pressure and make sure the environmental agencies monitor river pollution, enforce strict environmental regulations and punish polluters. This will force polluting industries to remedy their supply chains and clean up their act!
