Situation
The pandemic and school closures have pushed the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their wealthier peers to the highest its been in a decade, undoing much of the work done to close this gap pre-pandemic. The cost-of-living crisis now further impacts young people, with 35% of London’s children estimated to be living in poverty, and 16% of all 20-24 year olds in the capital classified as NEET (not in education, employment or training). Our work is needed now more than ever.
Solution
We support pupils facing disadvantage to achieve in key maths and English exams, helping to open opportunities in further education, employment or training. Our trained volunteer tutors support primary and secondary pupils to build their subject knowledge, confidence and growth mindset through weekly one hour sessions, taking place online or in-person at a local partner school. We’re currently partnered with 61 London schools, 17 of which are located in the city’s 10 poorest boroughs.
