61% of people are living in poverty in Dawuro, Ethiopia. The area is remote with poor infrastructure and has suffered severe drought. Families are vulnerable to external shocks and rely on rain-fed agriculture to eat and earn an income. Food yields are low due to limited farming knowledge, seeds and water. Land degradation, soil erosion and drought exacerbate the growing conditions. Communities have lost hope in farming as a viable future.

We’ll train with skills to develop their enterprises, increase gender and social inclusion and to manage their land using climate-smart methods. The project will host events to connect farmers with markets to sell their produce and demonstrate how to use their community structures to increase their bargaining power and influence when lobbying local government.
