Transport makes up 44% of Cambridgeshire’s carbon footprint more walking and cycling is urgently needed to reduce this. Our Zero Carbon Streets project has begun to unlock the power of communities from Willingham to West Chesterton, but there is much more to do. Your support can help us do more.

    Situation

Rapid change is needed if our county is to help the UK reach net zero by 2050. Increasing levels of active travel could have a significant impact. If 10% of the population were to replace one car trip each day with a journey by cycle, overall transport emissions would decrease by about 10%. However, safety is the top barrier to more cycling – by improving our streets we can enable more people to make sustainable choices.

    Solution

Our Zero Carbon Streets campaign has already inspired people across Cambridgeshire and supported community groups to install secure cycle parking in local villages, campaign for better walking and cycling infrastructure, and help residents speak up for active travel in local transport meetings and consultations. However, there is so much more to do. We want to empower and unite even more groups across the county to work together for safer, greener streets.
