FareShare Yorkshire serves hundreds of frontline charities each week with good food that companies would otherwise waste e.g. for pig feed. We are seeking your help to 100% eradicate use of plastic wrap via the purchase of strong, durable and crucially - reusable - pallet nets and rubber banding.

    Situation

As we grow to support more charities with surplus food, we use much higher volumes of single-use plastic wrap, on pallets of food especially. In total we use at least 9 square metres of wrap to secure just a single pallet of food. As we handles 2,000 - 3,000 tonnes of food each year and growing, we need a green solution. Otherwise we will be generating enough single-use plastic wrap to cover half a football pitch each year.

    Solution

Pallet nets can be reused many thousands of times, are safer than plastics wrap, are durable in racking/chillers/freezers and would also save our charity money long-term. They cost between £60-70 each and with the use of at least 100 nets in our Barnsley and Leeds centres, we can cut plastic wrap completed out of our operation. For pallets that cannot be netted, strong pallet bands, made of rubber, could be used to provide a safe load, and again be reused thousands of times.
