The Rose Vouchers for Fruit & Veg Project helps families on low incomes with young children to buy fresh fruit and veg in their local communities. Families get £4 of Rose Vouchers per child and £6 if the child is under one, which they can redeem for fruit & veg at local markets.

    Situation

The cost-of-living crisis exacerbates rising food poverty levels. The Food Foundation has reported that 9.7 million families have experienced food poverty. A family's economic situation directly impacts food choices. Families are switching to cheaper foods as calories from unhealthy food are 3x cheaper than healthy options - prioritising their children being full rather than healthy. An inadequate diet limits the life chances of children on low incomes and stores up problems for the future.

    Solution

Our Rose Vouchers for Fruit & Veg Project will support pregnant women & families with children under 5 that are at risk of food poverty to access fruit & veg from local markets & independent shops. We'll work with Children's Centres to identify the families most in need. We've already increased the number of Rose Vouchers a family will receive each week so they can buy more of the fruit and veg they need, despite rising prices. However, we need to raise more funds than ever to continue this.
