Our 'Feeding Minds' school lunch programme provides a daily lunch to 3,000 children across our eight partner primary schools. Without this meal these children would go through the school day without any food, severely impacting on both their well-being and their learning.

The lack of a government-funded feeding programme in schools in this part of Kenya, the drought-prone nature of the semi-arid region in which our partner schools are located and poverty levels in the surrounding community means that, on their own, our partner schools are unable to feed their pupils. Without our intervention hunger would present a serious obstacle to learning in our partner schools, impacting on access and retention as well as the well-being and welfare of pupils.

Our ‘Feeding Minds’ school feeding programme provides all 3,000 pupils across our partner schools with a daily term-time lunch. This consists of a basic meal of whole maize and beans for primary pupils and rice and beans for pre-school pupils. We provide the food on a monthly basis and it is cooked on site by cooks employed by the parents.
