We are seeking funds to expand our community hub, a walk-in space providing Newham residents with access to immigration advice, food parcels, digital inclusion support and volunteer-led signposting.

Situation
COVID-19 has compounded existing issues of deprivation and poverty in Newham. Residents disproportionely faces barriers to opportunity, experiencing a qualification/skills deficit, health inequalities, low income and 52% of children in poverty. 19% of Newham’s population changes yearly, hindering the development of social capital and stable peer support networks. This has been exacerbated by council cuts of £250-million, meaning fewer free activities and community spaces.
Solution
The grant will enable us to expand our provision of community hub activities, allowing us to deepen our engagement with Newham’s most vulnerable residents. It would help us to purchase items and equipment to host activities in our hub that bring people together, reduce isolation and strengthen our community. This includes furniture, equipment, a TV and other resources to create an inclusive space people feel welcomed in.
