The Telling will take our acclaimed concert/plays, where early music & theatre collide, to places where early music rarely tours: (Cumbria/Wolverhampton/Folkestone/Manningtree/Manchester/Wales). Shows will include: Into the Melting Pot (Spanish/Sephardic music) Vision (medieval Abbess Hildegard)

A touring inequity for both music & theatre means swathes of the UK "miss out": Midlands (except Birmingham/Warwick), N East (except York), N West (except Manchester), most of Wales (except Cardiff), N Ireland & the far South West. Touring contributes enormously to music education: so lack of touring means young people are missing out in accessing life-changing participative opportunities too. “thank you for coming to Cumbria: we feel left out by touring companies" audience feedback
No one else is tackling the touring inequity. The Telling has developed a distinctive RESIDENCY MODEL which turns the way touring works on its head: we take control of touring, rather than waiting passively for promoters in places where lots happens to book us. We do this by: a)booking venues ourselves b)working w partner arts orgs/venues/Music Hubs & ambassadors in each place b)appealing mix of free workshops for EVERYONE & lively shows where old music (cf folk/world), history & drama collide
