The Thin Green Line Foundation is dedicated to protecting wildlife by supporting rangers on the frontline of conservation. We are working to provide rangers in Upemba National Park with vital communications equipment so they can continue monitoring wildlife and protecting the area from poachers.

Home to huge biodiversity including elephants, lions and DRC’s last remaining herd of zebras, the 4,500 square miles of grassland, forest and wetland make Upemba one of Africa’s most important protected areas. Rangers are working hard to reverse the decline in wildlife due to increased poaching and wildlife trafficking. The remote location makes it hard to combat illegal mining, which together with the presence of both poachers and armed militia groups creates a dangerous environment to work in.

We will fund the purchase of 13 satellite communicators which will be a game changer for the park’s 247 rangers. It will enable park authorities to track the teams while they are out on patrol, and also allow them to communicate with each other, vastly improving team safety and effectiveness. This is currently impossible as there is no radio or phone cover. 60 rangers will be trained in the use of these devices, meaning every patrol team can work more safely to monitor and protect wildlife.
