Education in Guinea is free but the quality is poor. Many young people and their families believe they are better off working than attending school beyond the age of 12. The World Bank tells us that only 32% of Guineans enrol in secondary school and only 10% actually make it to graduation while only 26% of young women enter secondary education and only 7% graduate. CRS provides a low cost but high quality education but the most vulnerable are not always able to.

We will tip the balance in favour of education by paying the registration, fees (and where appropriate exam fees) for students who wish to attend school but who are struggling to pay. We will prioritise the most vulnerable (orphans and students with only one parent) and ensure that at least 50% of scholarships go to girls. Providing scholarships for the most vulnerable students promotes the attendance of female, orphaned and other vulnerable students, and supports regular attendance.
