By mid-August 2022 the UN reported that over 12 million Ukrainians were displaced and over 6,428,366 Ukrainians had fled their country, over 1 million into Romania and over 700,000 into Slovakia. The war in Ukraine is truly devastating and we are seeing the suffering on a daily basis. Each family has their own story and trauma. As winter arrives, the harsh realities of living in Ukraine will result in another wave of refugees fleeing to Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria. Our partners in each of these countries are ready to welcome, love and support those who arrive to their communities.
With our partners, IN Slovakia, IN Romania and IN Bulgaria, we have been able to help over 10,000 refugee families so far. But there are so many more people to help, especially as winter arrives. Our teams are ready to do more and need your help to make this possible. To help families survive the winter, we want to provide: • Convoys of food and medicines for families in Ukraine. • Food and accommodation. • School lessons in Ukrainian for 30 children as they try to settle into schools in Romania where they don’t speak the same language. • Trauma counselling and spiritual care. • A safe space at nursery for 60 Ukrainian kids.
