We are living through the worst cost of living crisis in memory. This financial crisis is drastically impacting the lives of children in our local community. Families are struggling to buy essentials and for many, a theatre trip sadly remains unaffordable. Children today face all kinds of challenges and mental health issues are on the rise. Theatre can sometimes be mistaken as a luxury, but with every visit, we see the enormous creative, social, and emotional benefits.
Curtain Up! is Polka’s subsidised ticket scheme providing free tickets to schools in underserved areas. It costs just £15 to provide 1 ticket (this includes a travel bursary, a resource pack for school teachers and a post-show Q&A). A small price to pay to transform a child’s week and create memories that last a lifetime. We will be working closely with schools and charities to reach children most in need, to ensure that cost is never the reason to miss out on having fun at Polka.
