This year marks the 50th anniversary since the Brothers first arrived in Wolverhampton. There have been many changes since that time but the ethos, mission and values have always remained the same. The problems may move in cycles but food will always be at the heart of what we do.

As the needs of the community evolve, one aspect which remains the same is the need for hot meals and food parcels. This is what draws the most entrenched individuals to the Good Shepherd if they are suffering from food poverty which is usually also a sign of other needs or a series of complex issues which are causing them problems. This could therefore lead to our staff offering support with addiction, mental health issues, accommodation, relationships, finance, or training and employment.

Historically our work has been crisis intervention providing food, practical support, and interventions to relieve homelessness. But more recently we have shifted our delivery towards preventing people from becoming homeless and supporting them to develop their skills and abilities alongside partner services whilst attending for food. Our recovery work helps them to adapt to living in accommodation and reintegrate with society whilst also providing opportunities for them to move on in their life
