We are a volunteer-led charity restoring the Lichfield Canal for the benefit of the community, tourism and the environment. We need to raise funds for a new lift bridge crossing the canal route, to benefit the residents of Lichfield and in particular those who live in the Longbridge Road area.

Situation
The restored canal will cut across a right of way, between Longbridge Road and Tamworth Road. Once the canal is restored, residents would need to take a lengthy diverted route from their homes to the shops and main road, unless we provide direct access with a footbridge. We are obliged by law to ensure that the right of way is passable. We are a volunteer-led charity and need to fund our work through fundraising and donations. This appeal is vital to raise the money for this essential bridge.
Solution
We currently provide over 5 miles of heritage-towpath and nature trails, a fantastic blue-green corridor. The liftbridge will allow direct access across the canal for those enjoying the towpath and nature trails. It will normally remain in a locked-down position enabling pedestrians to cross the channel and only be temporarily lifted to allow boats to pass along the canal. The appeal will fund the manufacture, supply and installation of a bespoke liftbridge by a certified bridge manufacturer.
