Christmas is meant to be the most wonderful time of the year but behind closed doors incidents of domestic abuse increase over the festive period. For victims it can be a frightening and isolating time but with your help BCWA can support the women and children fleeing domestic abuse.

The festive period often brings an increase in the incidence of domestic abuse but with many 'safe places’ closed, it can be difficult for victims to access help when they need it. Perpetrators may use this to their advantage and escalate abuse or blame their abusive behaviours on the additional pressures Christmas brings. Christmas is meant to be the most wonderful time of the year, but for those experiencing domestic abuse it can be a frightening and isolating time.

BCWA will be there for those who need us this Christmas, supporting women and children fleeing domestic abuse. Our welfare fund provides essential items (bedding, toiletries, etc.) for those who are moving into refuge with little to no belongings, offers supermarket vouchers to allow women in refuge to purchase food or toys for Christmas day, and pays for therapeutic activities/days out to help women and their children in our refuges to overcome the trauma of abuse.
