We want to improve support for vulnerable people struggling with life-changing cases on their own. When we find a barrister to help in these cases, they deal with many non-legal issues. We will provide volunteers to give emotional and practical support, enabling barristers to focus on legal issues.

Most people cannot afford to pay for a lawyer. Yet anyone could find themselves needing services of this kind at some point. Often in circumstances never expected, but circumstances that could happen to anyone. This has only been exacerbated by the cost of living crisis. Many people are struggling to see their children, keep their homes or keep their jobs. One way or another, a case without professional legal help can cost a home, a job, a relationship, and physical and mental health.
Our service provides a lifeline. We encourage barristers to volunteer their time and expertise and match them with people who are facing court alone because they have cannot afford to pay for help and cannot access legal aid. We hear from hundreds of people every month facing a complicated legal problem. Our barristers can offer legal advice, drafting of documents or representation in court, saving the vulnerable person from the terror of trying to present their legal case to a judge alone.
