The effects of brain injury can be wide ranging and depend on a number of factors such as the type, location and severity of the injury. Through our support groups we create a community and social network that brain injured people come to belong to, breaking down barriers and reducing isolation.

Brain injuries do not discriminate – they can happen in seconds to people of all ages in a variety of situations but the effects can last a lifetime. There are many possible causes: accidents, tumour, stroke, cardiac arrest, post viral infections such as meningitis. The impact can include: loss of independence, loss of employment or life role, increased stress and breakdowns in family relationships, low self-esteem and lack of confidence, anxiety, depression, poor memory and fatigue.

The funds raised will enable us to deliver three regular groups over 12 months (including a special group for young people) and over 675 hours of vital support, information and advice to people affected by brain injury. The aim is to improve quality of life, self-confidence and well-being, as well as practical tools such as coping strategies and advice, helping people to deal with anxiety, fatigue, poor memory or to return to work or other activities.
