The volunteers respond all hours, in all weather, helping to reach remote areas quickly and safely. With the health service in such demand, BASICS Devon can treat the patient before they reach the hospital, therefore alleviating pressures on local emergency departments. They are the only voluntary service offering this type of specialist service of higher clinical input in Devon, helping to reduce response times, health inequalities, long term disability and ultimately save lives.

The doctors are senior decision makers carrying enhanced pain relief, sedative drugs and can undertake specialist surgical procedures in an emergency. They can administer urgent drugs in a crisis to ease pain and suffering of the terminally ill in the community, as well as accident and emergency call outs. Some parts of Devon are over an hour’s drive from the nearest major hospital and BASICS Devon doctors can be fast to the scene, day and night and want to continue to support the Devon people.
