Homelessness is one of the biggest challenges that Bristol faces. Around 50 people sleep rough in the city each night, but hundreds more are staying in temporary accommodation, on sofas or in hostels. The winter brings particular challenges, with cold and wet weather making life incredibly tough and unsafe. Even a short period of homelessness can lead to poor physical and mental health, loneliness, isolation, hunger and a limited life expectancy (45 for a man, 43 for a woman).

The Wild Goose Day Centre provides vital support for homeless people in Bristol, helping them to leave homelessness behind. Immediate, short-term care includes the offer of a hearty cooked meal, a shower, a laundry service and somewhere to shelter from the winter. An engagement programme includes the offer of haircuts, creative art programmes and use of computers, whilst also offering access medical professionals, wellbeing activities and housing support.
