A reinterpretation of Stravinsky’s masterpiece The Rite of Spring ballet from acclaimed choreographer Alexander Whitley. Through pioneering technological innovation and rich spectacle, the stage production will breathe new life into The Rite’s timeless themes of nature, community and sacrifice.

Situation
High-quality dance is not reaching enough people, as audience members or participants, particularly innovative, new live productions. Many young people have not been introduced to this culturally significant ballet or Stravinsky’s ground-breaking score. Reflection is needed as humankind is facing a global ecological crisis and our communities and rituals are being redefined by digital communication, making The Rite of Spring’s themes of collective choice and sacrifice more relevant than ever.
Solution
AWDC’s Rite of Spring for a new generation fuses digital innovation, 3D animation and film/gaming industry techniques with contemporary choreography performed by 6 world-class dancers. It will premiere in spring 2024. The choreography and digital environment will also be used in our Future Rites VR & Digital Dance Studio, enabling participation.
