Situation
Learning a musical instrument has a multitude of benefits for children and young people, enriching life and education in so many ways. We believe a rich music education should be accessible to all children, not just those whose families can pay for it. As the cost of living rises, more and more families are finding their finances stretched, and music is at risk of becoming even further out of reach for many. This will be detrimental for the diversity and success of the music industry in future.
Solution
We award four-year music Scholarships to children who have started learning an instrument and are doing really well but whose families are unable to cover the costs of ongoing or increased tuition. Every LMF Scholar is provided with an instrument, weekly tuition, membership of an ensemble, performance opportunities, a mentor to support their musical and personal development, and is invited to LMF's Playing Days. Scholarships cover the transition from primary to secondary school.
