Learning to drive is a life skill most of us take for granted. For children in care it can be a game changer; boosting self-esteem, employment options & reducing social isolation. Yet for many, especially in the current cost of living crisis, it can be financially out of reach.

Situation
The trauma most care experienced young people face early on in life can have long lasting and devastating consequences. Only 17% gain 5 GCSEs compared to 60% of the general population, while 41% are not in education, employment or training compared with 11% nationally. They are four times more likely to suffer from a mental ill health disorder and make up nearly a third of the adult prison population. They are more vulnerable to being groomed by gangs, sexually exploited and being homeless.
Solution
Live Unlimited is a small local charity aimed at helping Barnet's care experienced young people grow in confidence, learn new skills, create job opportunities and reduce social isolation. Driving Ahead, delivered by AA driving school, offers 46hrs free driving lessons (the average no. of lessons it takes someone to pass) which is financially out of reach for most young people in care. We also pay for their driving & theory fees and support those with additional needs to take their theory test.
