Traditional Domestic Abuse services have been designed to support female victims of domestic abuse. Men too can be victims of domestic abuse and the support needs to be different from traditional female services to ensure the needs of men are met. Our data shows that male victims are at a high risk of suicide or self-harm and the support they received needs to reflect this. Not all men are perpetrators of abuse and not all perpetrators of abuse are men.

There are very few charities in England that purely support male victims. There are barriers to men seeking support and by having a stand-alone male service some of these barriers are instantly broken down. Men are often embarrassed and ashamed to talk about the abuse. Our support workers are trained in speaking to men and assessing their needs. We will work over many weeks/months to help the clients to move forward with their lives and be in a better mental health state.
