PHASE Worldwide's Christmas Appeal 2022 will raise vital funds primarily towards our Improving Maternal Health programme in Nepal. This involves working with mothers from remote communities to improve local structures of maternal healthcare and help improve nutrition for their children.

Remote areas of Nepal offer many challenges for maternal healthcare. Many villages are extremely difficult to access and are often affected by natural disasters such as earthquakes, landslides and flooding. This makes delivering healthcare and medical supplies extremely challenging. As a result, women are often forced to give birth without medical support, whilst insecure food supplies often lead to high levels of malnutrition in young children.

Through our local partner PHASE Nepal, we place qualified Nepali health workers (Auxiliary Nurse Midwives -ANMs) in targeted village health centres. Medicines and equipment are also provided to ensure the health post is fully supplied. Over the course of 12 months, the ANMs provide expertise in antenatal care, child health and nutrition and conduct outreach programmes with street dramas, nutrition workshops and door to door visits to engage villagers and raise awareness.
