Babies born to mothers under 20 are almost four times more likely to die from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). To help stop these deaths, we will deliver Little Lullaby, our peer-led community which helps young parents to feel better informed, more confident and less isolated.

Situation
Babies born to mums under 20 are almost 4x more likely to die from SIDS. Our work has contributed to an 80% fall in SIDS deaths in the UK since 1991; if all parents were aware of safer sleep advice, many more lives could be saved. However, young parents are less likely to follow safer sleep advice because of a lack of trust in health professionals, differing ‘social norms’ within their communities and experiences of discrimination and loneliness engendering a sense of needing to ‘go it alone’.
Solution
Little Lullaby is a digital and face-to-face community developed by and for young parents to share experiences, connect and educate themselves about safer sleep for babies. Little Lullaby harnesses the trust felt between young parents, increasing engagement with healthcare professionals using evidence-based advice and providing a space to connect. We will co-create digital content, hold Young Parent Panels, develop campaigns with other organisations and resources for health professionals.
