Fuel poverty is affecting thousands more people across the Wakefield district, e.g. people already working full-time, single parents, the elderly and vulnerable, and families with children. For some, it's more than the choice between eating and heating their home, it's a struggle to simply survive.

Wakefield District is a hard-working district; however, there are various areas high in deprivation. This has led to a significant increase in the number of food banks and community hubs, which all work hard to alleviate poverty. The energy price cap increase in April saw many more people struggle to pay their fuel bills, and the second increase in October will result in homelessness increasing, personal debt spiralling and suicide rates rising if support isn't received.

We will offer grants of £25 to 1,000 of the worst affected households in the district. This will help to ease stress/pressure when people are also struggling with escalating food prices, rising inflation and shocking petrol/diesel prices. Beneficiaries in desperate need can apply for more than one grant. We hope to raise far more than our target, as fuel poverty is only going to get worse. People across Wakefield are already facing some incredibly tough decisions and difficult situations.
