We will tackle dangerous and exploitative child labour. We’ll work with children, families, employers and communities in Uganda and Sierra Leone where poverty and child labour are damaging children’s wellbeing and education and provide the skills and awareness to ensure children have safe childhoods

We are removing and protecting children from dangerous and exploitative child labour in Uganda and Sierra Leone. In Busoga, Uganda, 28% of children are involved in child labour, and 35% of children aged 5-14 in Sierra Leone are working. This can put them at risk of injury, illness and exploitation, and often curbs their education, preventing them from breaking out of the cycle of poverty. We will address the extreme poverty at the root of child labour.

In Uganda, we will remove 1000 children from the worst child labour and return them to school, train parents to create microbusinesses so that they have a sustainable alternative income to child labour, and work with employers to become child labour free. In Sierra Leone, we will work with 1600 small holder palm oil farmers to reduce child labour, where young children are working long hours and often missing school, and at risk of injuries from carrying heavy loads and cuts from using machetes.
