Despite winning the famous ‘Musick Prize’ competition of 1701, John Weldon’s ‘The Judgement of Paris’, a significant setting of a libretto by William Congreve, is largely forgotten today. It is infrequently performed and has never been recorded. Given the success of the work at its premiere, and how compellingly it attests to the dramatic power of English music in the years following Henry Purcell’s death, we believe it is ripe for revival both on the concert stage and in the recording studio.

AAM, in collaboration with CHOC, will perform and produce the world-premiere recording of Weldon’s ‘The Judgement of Paris’ in autumn 2023. AAM exists to inspire audiences with music of the highest quality, and we are committed to championing lesser-known repertoire. Performing and recording with acclaimed harpsichordist Julian Perkins and an outstanding cast will give the work a new lease of life, reaching a global audience via physical and digital release, incl. to our 1M+ Spotify listeners.
