Situation
Adopted young people report needing ongoing support to address their & complex needs. Adoption UK’s recent survey of 2600 adopted young people reports that 45% of adopted 16-25 year old's were involved with mental health services in 2021. Mainstream youth services create a barrier to participation due to the lack of specialist support & understanding. This results in feelings of isolation & a greater need for mental health support. “The fear of abandonment is not just fear, it is a reality "
Solution
Adoption UK is committed to increasing the number of adopted young people across the country who are given access to our youth programme. By addressing the lack of bespoke support services we will be able to address both adopted young people's mental health and their future education and employment. Our methodology proposes that young people who feel supported and valued will be positively engaged, develop new skills and be better able to navigate life’s challenges.
