School-Home Support works with disadvantaged children and families to break down barriers to education and end intergenerational cycles of poverty. Our practitioners provide a link between school and home, addressing the issues that are hampering learning, such as poverty, housing or mental health.

Education is key to social mobility but almost 1 in 8 children is persistently absent from school every year. This leads to bigger issues, from low attainment to poverty and crime. Personalised support is essential to help vulnerable children achieve their potential and escape familial cycles of poverty. Demand for our services has never been higher: last year persistent absence increased by nearly 100,000 children. The current cost of living crisis will only further worsen this problem.

School-Home Support provides one-on-one support for children, co-creating personalised plans with families to get young people in school ready to learn. Practitioners offer families advice on finances, housing or childcare, as well as providing emergency aid through our Welfare Fund. This enables them to buy items like white goods, uniforms or beds, reducing the effects of poverty on young people's attainment. We empower families so that disadvantaged children can get the most out of education.
