Beneficiaries
The homeless population are among the most disadvantaged people in densely populated Kolkata (India). They are mostly engaged in labour work, and live in deplorable conditions with poor access to basic facilities and health services. Girls are the most marginalised and engaged in rag-picking or domestic chores from a young age. Due to a patriarchal mindset, they are discriminated against and remain vulnerable to abuse, exploitation, child labour, child marriage and many do not attend school.
HOPE has been working on street-children’s rights since 1999. This project aims to reduce the vulnerability of the most marginalised street-connected girls and adolescents through access to basic rights: education, nutrition, healthcare, protection and vocational skills training to enhance their employability potential. The project will ensure the girls' all round holistic development to become empowered adults with improved self-reliance, self-worth, education and skills.
