For those leaving prison, the situation has never been more challenging or dangerous. The current ‘discharge grant’ for prisoners stands at just £82. Those prisoners who are eligible to receive it, and not all are, have to survive on this sum until they receive benefit support or receive payment for paid employment, which can take months. The practical challenges faced by prison leavers & the poverty & negative impact on children and families of having a loved one in prison, are immense.

Pact’s Welfare Fund provides essential small grants to prison leavers and their families in acute financial difficulty, preventing street homelessness and hardship. Our Welfare Fund helps prisoners and their families through the provision of items such as food vouchers, clothes, basic mobile phones, ID, white goods, essentials for kids, and rent bonds.
