Situation
We are tackling 3 problems: 1. People with learning difficulties often suffer from social isolation and difficulties acquiring new skills, building confidence, and flourishing as individuals. 2. For family members and carers providing 24 hour support to the people they care for can cause mental health challenges as it can be very difficult for them to find time for themselves to recharge. 3. Biodiversity in Epping Forest is reducing due to increased usage, pollution and climate change.
Solution
Evidence shows that contact with nature improves people’s physical health and mental wellbeing. Our Happy Loppers programme: - enables people with learning difficulties to: a) access nature, take part in physical exercise & improve their mental health & wellbeing b) socialise & builds their confidence c) get a sense of purpose & achievement. - provides their carers with a break, knowing that their family members are enjoying meaningful time in nature. - increases the biodiversity of Epping
