Situation
“One significant species is missing. An icon, a giant amongst our native birds that was once abundant.” – David Attenborough Great bustards (the world’s heaviest flying birds) used to be prevalent in Britain but were reduced to national extinction in the 19th Century. Great Bustard Group is restoring and protecting these birds in the UK. However, this is not an easy task as many people have never even heard of a great bustard, making preservation projects hard to promote and maintain.
Solution
We will be installing a series of cameras across different sites throughout the UK to capture bustards in the wild, in wildlife parks and breeding projects. We will be live streaming the different sites and presenting live seminars to groups and schools to engage the public and raise awareness and support. Additionally, the camera data will be used to monitor the health and well-being of the bustards as well as tracking behavioural tendencies in the wild.
