According to official statistics, 38% of children in London live in poverty, compared with 31% nationally. The situation in such households is utterly challenging where parents struggle to put food on table and warm their homes, let alone think about surprising their children with Xmas presents. The schools, where we have delivered Kindness workshops to, have informed us that some families during Christmas have to choose between shopping for essentials or shopping for Christmas gifts.

We aim to spread Christmas joy by sending gifts to children from low income families in deprived areas of Wandsworth. These families have also been impacted by Covid-19 and continue to struggle with their finances (and their own mental health). We have worked with Wandsworth’s Children Services before to identify and refer us to a network of schools in deprived areas. The teachers in these schools help to identify the most financially vulnerable children to ensure they receive gift bag in Xmas.
