In the last 30 years, millions of acres of tropical forest have been lost in Indonesia. Orangutan Foundation work closely with local communities and government in Indonesian Borneo to help reverse this trend by protecting standing rainforest and rejuvenating areas of degradation- one tree at a time.

Situation
Forests breathe for our planet and yet habitat loss is a looming prospect for many tropical forest environments. Habitat encroachment and fires release thousands of tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere, fueling the increasing severity of climate change and destroying trees which can help mitigate it's impact. Collaborating with local people, we can transform fragmented and destroyed habitat back into a stable and balanced ecosystem.
Solution
Increased environmental activities and awareness workshops with local communities help prevent habitat loss and reforest areas that have been previously destroyed. Our forest guard posts are on alert 24 hours a day to monitor cases of illegal encroachment and fires, while our sapling nurseries to date have cultivated and replanted over 100,000 young trees to help regenerate lost forest habitat. We require funds to continue these vital conservation programmes.
