Help IDAS provide a welcoming sanctuary in the garden of our Barnsley refuge, for women and children who have fled domestic abuse. Durable artificial grass, play equipment, planting, garden furniture and a sensory path will create a safe outdoor space for the women and children we support.

Our refuge in Barnsley has a large garden, but the grass is scorched, the wooden shed is dilapidated, and the garden furniture and outdoor toys are old, damaged and broken. As a result the outdoor space is rarely used by the women and children we support at the refuge. Many of the women are wary of socialising in each other's rooms in the pandemic, and, due to mental ill health as a result of abuse, they are often frightened to leave refuge and venture into the local community.

We would like to create a calm and welcoming outdoor space for the women and children at our Barnsley refuge. By replacing the scorched grass with durable artificial grass, adding plants and a sensory path, and replacing the garden furniture and play equipment the women and children we support will have somewhere to socialise and play. A revamped outdoor space would mean the women and children we support at refuge will spend more time outdoors.
