Together we’ve doubled the number of Repair Cafes in Cambridgeshire in the last year. To ensure all repairers have access to the tools they need to repair effectively we need another shared toolkit to lend out to local Repair Cafes. All donations will be matched by Cambridge Design Partnership.

    Situation

The UK ranks second globally in e-waste per capita, but attitudes are shifting. People in Cambridgeshire are increasingly embracing reuse, taking care of items and fixing them when they break. With more Repair Cafes wanting to take place on the same weekend, toolkit availability has become a limiting factor on our network. In addition, organisers from across Cambridgeshire currently pick up shared toolkits from the centre of Cambridge, taking up precious volunteer time and causing emissions.

    Solution

We will use the funds raised to buy an additional toolkit with all the tools and consumables needed to do common repairs safely. This will support our growing network, meaning that we can help more people to reduce their environmental impact, prevent waste, save money and meet new people over a cup of tea at a Repair Cafe. The new toolkit will be kept in a South Cambridgeshire location helping us to create a local repair hub, and reducing travel times to collect and return the toolkit.
