This September, as families across the UK prepare their children to go back to school, many in northern Ghana’s hardest to reach communities won’t have the same opportunity. Together, we can help communities overcome barriers to education and get children back in school to build a brighter future!

Education is crucial to breaking the cycle of poverty, yet in northern Ghana 450,000 children are out of school. AfriKids is working to support the hardest to reach communities to overcome the barriers that keep their children out of school. High levels of poverty mean that costs associated with sending children to school are a major factor in non-attendance, alongside issues such as child marriage, teen pregnancy, and child labour.

Everything we do is devised and delivered by local staff who listen to their communities and empower them to make sustainable changes themselves. Our programmes help to remove barriers to children going to school by working with all levels of the local community. From providing school supplies, to training teachers to create a supportive school environment that supports regular attendance, AfriKids work to address both the immediate barriers and root causes to children not attending school.
