Education is a key tool in reducing the harmful effects of poverty. Help us offer hope of a better future through secondary education and wrap around emotional, health and social support for young people in Tanzania who are disadvantaged by poverty, trauma and exploitation, with a focus on girls.

In Tanzania, access to education has increased massively over the last two decades, but it is not a universal reality. For some, state education is not accessible, and private schools are not affordable, yet the risks of being out of school can be high. Young people out of education are vulnerable to exploitative work, abuse, traumatic experiences and unwanted early marriage and pregnancy, with a disproportionate impact on girls and young women.
We, UK charity Kiota, support our established and respected partners, the Tanzanian women-led NGO KIWOHEDE, to operate the KIWOHEDE Open School, a secondary school with holistic and trauma informed support for young people who do not have the opportunity to continue with education beyond primary school, and who have been identified as highly vulnerable and disadvantaged.
