Funding is urgently required to provide help for local badger groups on the ground who are called out to injured badgers. These wild animals are a protected species, and need specialist care for recovery and rehab, often via out of hours vet services and specialist wildlife rescues.

Badgers are a protected species, are nocturnal, and often take the number 1 spot for road traffic collisions. And that's before cub season when losing a lactating Mum to a RTC means cubs may be orphaned and at risk of starvation. Badger Trust has a network of local groups in England and Wales with volunteers who respond to emergency calls for help when badgers are found or reported by the public. The loss of RSPCA nighttime response means more calls go to groups - with more costs and work to do.

Funds raised will be used to provide a new 'Emergency Badger Rescue and Rehab Fund' by Badger Trust, the dedicated charity for badgers, for local groups to apply for when they face especially large or unexpected vet bills that they may not be able to pay from their own funds. Funds may also be allocated to partner wildlife rescues who take in the badgers. Groups will then be able to continue to respond to calls with confidence, and to focus on the work at hand - helping the injured badger.
