To provide clean water points for families living in the Slum. Most families use water collected from rain, much of which is contaminated and makes children unwell. Children miss 10% of their education because of acute illnesses. They also risk being assaulted when walking to collect water.

Our primary objective is to help children attend school and gain the skills to lift themselves out of poverty. In every school year, a child from the KosOvo slum will miss a month of education due to illness. The most prevalent illness is gastroenteritis. We want to eradicate the use of ground water wells and unclean rainwater collection in order to improve health. We are also (in a separate bid) sponsoring the most impoverished children to attend school.

Helping Uganda Schools (HUGS) is working in partnership with a Ugandan NGO called CEFOVID (Community Empowerment for Village Development) in order to choose the 'right locations' for water points (where there is clear ownership and a commitment to keep them sanitary). Then liaise with a local water company to have connections fitted, Finally to review and monitor these water points to ensure long term benefits.
