Rates of violence against children are rising alarmingly as a result of school closures and addition pressures put onto families in the wake of the pandemic. In 6 months levels of child marriage have risen 17%. Levels of reported sexual abuse have gone up by 11%. Schools are safe havens for children who suffer abuse such as this and many are now falling through the cracks, we must intervene to ensure children are protected from abuse in these vulnerable communities.

CINI staff will work with children, families and local government workers to help people understand: Children's rights and entitlements; how child related legislation affect them; and how they can address the rights of children during the pandemic. CINI will run community outreach programs in the identified vulnerable areas (tea gardens) to properly identify children and ensure they are linked with community support. CINI will train government staff/parent/teachers on child protection.
