We aim to continue to educate poor rural children in the disastrous situation following the Coup. Myanmar is virtually in civil war, with schools largely unattended, and COVID-19 cases increasing. Poverty is rising rapidly and starvation looms. We must not desert our young, bright, students.

Since 2013 we have run a very successful non-profit High School in the very remote area of Yay Kyaw Toe, already supported in several years through The Big Give. The school was closed due to COVID from August 2020, but we continued to pay all the staff on a part-time basis, while adopting home study programmes for the students. The Coup in February 2021 has made our situation drastically worse, and our resources need strengthening in order to take action to help our students.

We are in a highly volatile situation, with an unknowable future. We need to be prepared to reopen the school if and when possible. At the moment it is too dangerous, as many people feel that parents should not let their children attend. We are working as an alternative on schemes for vocational training, either locally or elsewhere. We are aiming to at least offer these very poor children some hope for the future. In essence we are asking for support to allow us to pursue solutions flexibly.
