World Child Cancer will help children with cancer in Myanmar and the Philippines to access treatment through funding some essential, but prohibitive costs to access treatment, such as diagnosis costs, cancer drugs, transport to hospital and nutrition. This will contribute to saving children’s lives.

Childhood cancer is highly curable. In high-income countries such as the UK, 84% of children who develop cancer survive, whereas in Myanmar and the Philippines survival rates are significantly lower. Children die unnecessarily due to a lack of diagnosis and access to quality treatment. Treatment costs for childhood cancer (such as diagnosis, medication and transport to hospital) fall to families, who can often not afford them, and often result in children not accessing, or abandoning treatment.

We will improve children’s access to an accurate diagnosis and cancer treatment by providing direct financial support to vulnerable families to help them cover the costs of diagnosis, medication, treatment and travel to hospital, as well as nutrition and hygiene essentials. We will also support nursing staff costs. This will enable children with cancer from low-income families to access better quality of care, improving their chances to survive and have a better quality of life.
