At our girls refuge (known as the Girl Power Centre) we give the most vulnerable young girls in Kumasi a safe place to live and access to education. It's a place for girls who have suffered trauma, are orphaned, homeless or out of school to receive life changing educational support and care.

Situation
There are over 20,000 street children in Kumasi. It is really hard being a girl and living on the streets. It poses constant threat and worry. Street girls don't get the chance to go to school, eat regular meals, wash with clean water and they don't get to feel safe. Most street girls spend their days trying to earn a small amount of money each day so they can buy food and water and support their siblings. Living on the streets offers little chance for a girl to have a happy future.
Solution
Our girls refuge has been operating for the past two years (known as the Girl Power Centre). Right now, the centre provides education and food for 60 girls, and it's a home to many street girls. It's a safe place for girls to live away from the dangers of the streets and gain a formal or vocational education in the day. The centre is a lifeline to the most marginalised girls in Kumasi. They live in dignity and work towards a better brighter future with financial security.
