Situation
Caring for a child with a life-shortening condition places enormous strains on their family. Round-the-clock care and complex needs lead to emotional and physical exhaustion. Families are consumed by the daily routine of keeping their child safe and alive, and easily become isolated, especially in remote rural counties like Dorset and Wiltshire. COVID-19 has made this awful situation much worse and for many families we are often the only support they receive.
Solution
Every family we support is unique and so is the specialist support we provide. Families can access frequent and flexible respite care in their homes, whenever they need us – daytime, evenings or weekends, for emergency care and for end of life care if required. Following strict infection control procedures and using appropriate PPE, our nurses and carers ensure vulnerable children are safe and comfortable, as well as helping them have fun and reach their potential through tailored play.
