A well loved local landmark, Gun Moor is wonderful 150-acre mix of open moorland, heathland and woodland, overlooking Leek in the Staffordshire Moorlands not far from the iconic landscape of the Roaches. Monitoring records show that it is home to cuckoo, snipe, curlew and woodcock, all species on the brink of localised extinction. With protection from unsympathetic management such as intensive grazing and drainage, the site could become a beautiful, wild and safe haven for wildlife to flourish.

Staffordshire Wildlife Trust is raising funds to purchase the freehold of the site and secure the future of the site for the wildlife and people of Staffordshire. In 2019 when Gun Moor came onto the market we entered a buy-back agreement with the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, who stepped in and purchased the site. Following a successful appeal and local fundraising pre-pandemic, we have until 30th April 2021 to raise the remaining funds to buy it back or it risks returning to the open market.
