The profile of women as photographers, photographic subjects, curators, scholars, and collectors is little known and under-appreciated. It can be difficult for emerging and early career photographic artists, in particular from diverse backgrounds and genders, to have opportunities to show their work alongside established artists, and to have their work viewed and reviewed by the public and professionals. The visual arts can seem inaccessible and difficult to relate to for many people.

The Festival provides an opportunity for all to show the many ways in which women have influenced the art of photography. Exhibitions, talks and workshops will be settings for learning, raising profiles and developing careers in the arts. Greater familiarity with photography can make access to, enjoyment of and participation in creative visual arts possible for many people.
